Money

[Intro]

To the one who loves money, please hear what I say,
I walk through this world in a different way.
I know it has purpose, I know it has place,
But it will not rule me, my soul, or my days.

[Chorus]
Money is not my God, no, money is not my king,
It cannot save my soul or teach my heart to sing.
I’d rather walk in freedom with empty hands held high,
Than live in golden bondage while my spirit slowly dies.
Money is not my God, no, money is not my Lord,
I choose the road of Heaven over treasure I have stored.

[Verse 1]
I don’t value money like you seem to do,
It comes into my hands and then it passes through.
For food and for shelter, for mercy and need,
For helping another, for planting a seed.
I don’t want to clutch it like I’ll never see more,
I don’t want to worship what slips out the door.
If life brings provision again like the rain,
Why should I live chained to the fear of my pain?

[Verse 2]
I hate all the counting, the worry, the weight,
The ledgers, the balances, statements, and dates.
The fees and the numbers, the fear and the fuss,
The way that it rises between you and us.
To track every dollar that falls from my hand
Feels like tracking dust blown away from the land.
It’s gone when it’s gone, so why give it my mind?
There are holier treasures I’m aching to find.

[Verse 3]
Why do we bow down to the paper and screen,
To numbers in systems no hand has ever seen?
It isn’t like silver, it isn’t like gold,
It’s promises traded, and passwords controlled.
It lives in computers, it moves through the air,
It makes people tremble, it teaches despair.
But money’s a servant, not master or throne,
And I will not kneel to a thing made of stone.

[Verse 4]
I’m thinking of poverty, not out of shame,
But out of a longing to loosen the chain.
To live with less clutter, less hunger for more,
To leave all my fear at the heavenly door.
I’d rather have little and still be at peace,
Than gain every comfort and never be free.
For what does it profit, what price would I pay,
To win all the world while my soul slips away?

[Verse 5]
I know there are bills, and I know there are debts,
There are duties before me I cannot forget.
I’m not saying money should never be planned,
I’m saying it must never own my command.
Let money serve life, let it stay in its place,
Let God have my worship, my trust, and my praise.
If I need some help with the practical part,
That still doesn’t mean it can rule in my heart.

[Bridge]
You may count the coins, I will count the cost,
Of every quiet hour that fear has lost.
You may guard the gold, I will guard my soul,
For only God can make me whole.
Let the world keep shouting, “Earn and save,”
But I was not born to be money’s slave.
I was made for Heaven, I was made for grace,
Not a balance on a screen, not a number in its place.

[Ending]
So hear me with kindness, and hear me with care,
I’m not here to judge you or call life unfair.
But I have decided, with heart, soul, and breath,
I will not love money in life or in death.
Let Heaven be treasure, let God be my flame,
Let freedom and poverty call me by name.
Money is not my God, it never will be,
Amen, Lord, amen — let my spirit be free.
